I don’t really care about DST or standard time, I just hate the time change. At the very least it turns my toddlers into a nightmare for a week.
Whatever time system is chosen, everyone can adjust schedules to work within it. Construction jobs need daylight? Change your start time. Exceedingly simple.
Yes stop the time change! Why does this country take decades to make simple decisions like that?
On Social Security I can only imagine how flush wth money it would be if a portion was in the stock market instead of low earning t-bills. I would say 25-50 percent but we shouldn't do it until the next big market reset which is coming one way or another.
If all you learned at Columbia was that tariffs are bad you should ask for your money back. If you did not hear that economist have always known that being dependent on a country that onw might go to war with is a reason to restrict imports from that country, their bad. [BTW the points you make about Chinese behavior are irrelevant for trade policy except for bargaining. Also not a recent conclusions of the economic science.]
'Even then, they’ll likely cover shortfalls with general revenues—because why not commit a few percentage points of GDP to an ongoing entitlement indefinitely?'
Whether general revenues or a VAT (as social insurance _should_ be financed), it's still a few percentage of GDP. Let's make sure it comesout of consumption and not out of investment
I have a hard time understanding why people have so much difficulty with the twice a year time change. I hardly notice it when it takes place. That said, if any change is made I vote for DST year 'round.
Covering SS out of general revenues just means the shoe is on the other foot. General account deficits were papered over for years by the accounting fiction known as the Social Security Trust Fund, when it was in surplus.
Three really good thoughts to start the day…thanks
I laughed at the t shirt bit.

Turns out there is science on which is better. Standard time wins. https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=Rk1ahTgZI_g&t=12m00s

Just adjust the time 20 seconds per day - creep forward, slink back
